Design Development & Solution After the first meeting with the client at the site, the main message was to provide an atmosphere within their home that was suitable for their two young children with a feel of city sophistication.

Specifically, we wanted to create more space in the second bedroom and bathroom for their children; this was a practical necessity given that both of their two children would be sharing this space.

Furthermore, storage space was of importance; we'd add a nice wardrobe in the hallway entrance, which had previously been a dead area. This utilised the space and gave them more storage, which is especially useful for young families!

At times, the couple were not on the same page and for me as a designer, I had to convince both of them and satisfy both parties. For that reason, the living room was the combination of both of their thoughts: a very comfortable U-shape sofa with a luxury chandelier and warm colours for the framed wall.

Challenges As a listed two property, we had to work carefully in line with the regulations of the building. This meant a lot of paperwork and a lot of back-and-forth with the building management and surveyor. After obtaining the license, they had to come and check our work to evaluate whether we passed the building's requirements. Thankfully, when the surveyor came to the site, he was surprised with the progress we had made; as a result, he was satisfied with photo updates of our progress moving forward.

A further challenge was ensuring that both clients were satisfied with the design plan provided. As aforementioned, there were times the couple disagreed on several elements of the design; however, I established a good working relationship with both and managed to create a design they both liked. Working hours and handing over the project on time was the biggest challenge; however, with good management, a professional team, and keeping in line with a good time schedule, there was no delay to the completion date.

By the close of the project, we provided the client with a space that had a beautiful, luxurious feeling paired with a homely setting for a family of four. Both clients, plus their children, were so pleased with the result and were happy with the layout of each space. Since completing the Marylebone project, I've had quite a lot of interest from other potential clients. Three possible clients have come to view the project in person and are keen to discuss working with me in the upcoming year, including a property in Albert Court. What's more, the client has said he'd happily provide any references for new projects; given the great working relationship we've established, I feel very positive about this moving forward

The floorboards and tiles that were replaced were, on the most part, recyclable too. Upon clearing old materials, many were reused and recycled by the team for future projects.
